Germany and Nigeria reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral trade and investment. German officials highlighted Nigeria’s key role in European energy security, alongside joint efforts under the Presidential Power Initiative to expand access to clean electricity.
Nigeria continues to serve as Germany’s second largest trading partner in sub-Saharan Africa, with both governments seeking to accelerate private sector investments in green energy, critical minerals, and digital technology.
Additionally, Germany allocated $11.4 million this year to support humanitarian stabilization and reintegration programs in regions affected by conflict.
German foreign minister, Johann Wadephul, in a statement to Reuters, noted that “the spillover effects of the crisis in the Sahel are increasingly threatening all coastal states in the region.”
He added that “Nigeria has stood on the front line in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.”
Nigerian Foreign Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu emphasized the importance of tackling insecurity and terrorism through international partnerships, as reported by Reuters:
“Sustained international partnerships were essential to addressing terrorism, violent extremism, transnational organised crime and other security threats facing West Africa.”
