TikTok has notified Kenyan content creators who earn money through the platform that they are required to provide their tax information to comply with Kenya’s tax requirements.
Kenyan creators are receiving a notification from TikTok Announcements asking them to complete the Kenya tax form “as soon as possible to comply with Kenya’s tax requirements.”
The notification appears under System notifications and includes a “Go to tax form” button that directs creators to submit the required tax information.
TikTok says the information will be used to verify creators’ tax responsibilities and fulfil its payment obligations for payouts made through the platform.
The tax information form requires creators to provide their name, email address, address and country of residence.
Creators are also required to indicate whether they are residents or non-residents of Kenya.
According to TikTok, the tax information will apply to payouts from all programmes and schemes in which creators have participated, as well as any future programmes they may join.
“This information allows TikTok and your local tax authorities to verify your tax responsibility and fulfil our payment obligations to you for payouts in TikTok,” the platform said.
TikTok has urged affected creators to complete the form as soon as possible to comply with Kenya’s tax requirements.
The platform has not specified a deadline in the notification.
Creators who earn money through TikTok in Kenya can check their System notifications to see whether they have received the request.
The TikTok move comes as other digital platforms also implement Kenya-specific tax requirements for creators.
Google says it will withhold a 5 per cent Kenya tax on applicable YouTube earnings, starting with September 2026 earnings paid out in October.
YouTube creators in Kenya are required to submit their Kenyan Personal Identification Number (PIN) through AdSense for YouTube by October 1, 2026, or their payments may be held.
Google says the tax details submitted by creators may take three to five business days to be reviewed and approved.
The company also says it is required to report to the Kenya Revenue Authority each month the gross payments subject to Kenya withholding tax, the total amount withheld, the creator’s PIN and address.
