CaliExpress often called Kelly Express is a fully robotic burger joint in Pasadena, California, commonly referred to as the world’s first fully autonomous AI-powered restaurant.
Opened around late 2023/early 2024, it features robots handling the entire cooking process. One grinds and grills burgers including fresh-ground Wagyu-blend patties, another Flippy runs the fry station, and more handle other tasks.
Guests order at self-service kiosks and watch the machines prepare the food with high consistency and speed.
A complete Burger takes less than a minute to be fully prepared.
The concept aims to cut labor costs, reduce waste, and deliver reliable results as Robots don’t call in sick or need breaks.
A small human staff still handles final packaging and customer-facing roles, but the kitchen itself is highly automated giving a striking look at how robotics and AI are reshaping fast food.
