The United States Embassy in Abuja on Thursday announced the signing of a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Yesterday, with the Ilorin Innovation Hub, marking the embassy’s first public-private partnership outside its American Spaces Network.

The collaboration will expand US engagement in Kwara State’s growing technology sector and deliver programming focused on artificial intelligence (AI), STEM education, and professional development.
The U.S. Embassy in Nigeria and the UNDP are heavily investing in Nigeria’s technology ecosystem in 2026, primarily through AI-focused, university-based, and public-private partnerships. Key initiatives include the U.S. Embassy’s three-year partnership with the Ilorin Innovation Hub and the UNDP’s launch of AI University Innovation Pods (UniPods) to promote AI, STEM education, robotics, and entrepreneurship.

Last year the Ilorin innovation Hub hosted the 2025 Kwara AI Summit bringing together World’s top innovators, startups, and policymakers to Ilorin.
The event, brought together stakeholders including local and international investors, as a sign that Nigeria’s digital economy can move improve and still attract capital at scale.
“We have capital, investors, venture capitalists, Indian investors, and the media all here in Ilorin, not in Lagos or in Abuja,” Managing Director of the Ilorin Innovation Hub, Temi Kolawole, said in his opening remarks.
The Ilorin Innovation Hub, represents an attempt to change that dynamic by deliberately building an innovation base in the north-central region, and this new MOU with the United States Embassy, provides just the necessary platform for Technology Inventions to successfully thrive.
the hub is designed not only to support startups but also to attract investors who may previously have focused exclusively on Nigeria’s commercial capital.

Kwara Innovation Hub Ilorin
Since its launch, the Ilorin hub has positioned itself as both an incubation centre and a regional ecosystem builder.
According to programme lead Zumah Yahaya, the hub has supported 23 startups to venture readiness within 10 months and built a community of more than 9,000 members.
It has also extended its footprint beyond Kwara State, conducting ecosystem workshops across at least eight states and engaging more than 5,000 participants in entrepreneurship and technical training programmes.
