The senator made the announcement in a Facebook post on Monday following her visit to Idah Local Government Area in Kogi East, where she joined leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party to receive new defectors into the party.

Her promise of free Wi-Fi in the District comes amid increasing attention on digital infrastructure as a catalyst for economic growth, particularly in underserved communities where access to affordable internet remains limited.
According to the senator, the initiative was inspired by a suggestion from one of the new defectors, identified as Idris HK, who proposed deploying free internet services across parts of Kogi East to support content creators and young entrepreneurs.
She wrote, “I stood there loving the idea as a necessity to facilitating job creation for our youths. Whilst he spoke, he mentioned installing free Wi-Fi in strategic locations across the Eastern District to support content creators’ internet access.
“So, in the spirit of collaboration and ‘Kogi Central no dey take last’, here’s me pledging to do the same for our beloved Kogi Central.”

Kogi State is actively fostering a digital industry through youth training, infrastructure development, and partnerships, focusing on AI, vocational tech skills, and agro-industrial technology. Key initiatives include empowering over 1,000 teenagers, planning free public Wi-Fi, and partnering with China for agro-industrial technology transfer.
Over 170 youths were trained in AI, prompt engineering, and digital skills by the Chinubu 2027 group. Another 1,000 teenagers in Kogi State were empowered with essential digital and vocational skills through a transformative training organised by the Makoji Kelvin Ibrahim Foundation under the Bridge Nigeria Summer Bootcamp.
The three-day programme, themed “Intelligence and the Future of Work,” held in Idah, was designed to equip young Nigerians with practical tools and knowledge to thrive in today’s technology-driven world.
Participants received training in computer literacy, Artificial Intelligence (AI) fundamentals, financial literacy, and drug abuse awareness. They also gained hands-on experience in vocational trades such as soap making, fashion design, confectionery, hairstyling, and makeup artistry.
Kogi youths have enthusiastically embraced Digital opportunity in the state. Many of the youths have enrolled in 12 digital skill acquisition programs in the state such as the Community of the 3 Million Technical Talents (3MTT) program.
The 3MTT initiative of the Federal Ministry of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy, aimed at creating three million digital jobs for Nigerian youths by 2025 through Technology
