People are asking ChatGPT what to wear to a wedding, where to travel next, or which product to buy.
Now imagine your business showing up while they’re making that decision.
That’s the opportunity ChatGPT Ads is opening up for businesses in Nigeria and South Africa.
OpenAI has expanded its advertising service to both countries, allowing businesses to place clearly labelled ads within ChatGPT conversations. More than 100,000 advertisers have reportedly run campaigns since the service launched.
How Much does it Cost to get Started?
OpenAI’s published minimum daily budget for campaigns billed in US dollars is $25. At that minimum, a 30-day campaign would cost about $750, roughly ₦1 million, before bank conversion and card charges.
Businesses can create campaigns through OpenAI’s Ads Manager by choosing an objective, setting a budget and duration, selecting their target market, and submitting their ads for review.
But there’s a catch,
Some new self-service accounts can initially advertise only in their home country. Reaching customers abroad may require identity verification and meeting the required ad-spend threshold in that market.
ChatGPT Ads also comes with an important distinction: ads are labelled and kept separate from the chatbot’s answers.
OpenAI says advertisers cannot access users’ private conversations, and ads do not influence ChatGPT’s responses.
For Nigerian businesses, this opens up another way to reach potential customers right when they’re exploring ideas or weighing a purchase.
The real question is whether the cost makes sense for the audience and results they want.
If you run a business, would you spend about ₦1 million a month to advertise on ChatGPT, or would you rather stick with Instagram and Google Ads?
