‎Honor Robot Phone Launches in China with a Hefty Price Strictly Meant for the Ultra-Rich

Posted by

‎Honor has officially Launched its long-teased Robot Phone in China, turning an ambitious concept into a commercial smartphone.

‎Unveiled on August 12, 2026, in Guangzhou, the device is positioned as the world’s first robotic smartphone featuring a fully integrated 4-DoF (four degrees of freedom) mechanical gimbal. Pre-orders began the same day, with open sales scheduled to start on August 18.

‎The defining element is the HONOR Titanium Agile Gimbal. This ultra-compact motorized system houses the main camera and physically moves it for stabilization and tracking, rather than relying solely on software.

‎Honor developed it through dozens of manufacturing processes, incorporating more than 100 precision components and over 100 patents. The company claims it is 65% smaller than typical mainstream gimbals while being significantly stronger structurally. The ultralight 2.6g titanium motor is just 6mm thin and fits within the phone’s roughly 9.6mm profile.

‎‎The gimbal supports AI-powered subject tracking, automatic panning and tilting to keep subjects in frame, and precise motion control. It can deploy quickly and offers high-speed movement (up to 360° per second in some descriptions). This setup aims to deliver smoother video and more cinematic shots for content creators and vloggers without needing a separate gimbal device.

‎The main camera on the gimbal uses a 200MP sensor (1/1.28-inch size) with an f/1.6 aperture. Supporting lenses include a 50MP ultrawide and a 200MP telephoto. Honor partnered with ARRI to bring professional cinema tools to the phone, including 10-bit ARRI LogC3 recording, ARRI Wide Gamut 3, and built-in ARRI Looks. Footage is designed to integrate more easily into professional post-production workflows such as DaVinci Resolve.

‎Robot Phone Core Specifications and Design

‎Beyond the camera system, the Robot Phone is a high-end Android device:

‎‎- Display: 6.31-inch LTPO OLED with 1-120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness up to 6,800 nits.

‎- Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

‎- Memory and storage: Configurations of 12GB RAM + 512GB or 16GB RAM + 1TB.

‎- Battery: 7,060mAh silicon-carbon battery with 120W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

‎- Software: MagicOS 10 based on Android 16, with YOYO AI features (including lifetime complimentary SVIP membership for buyers).

‎- Build: Approximately 9.6mm thick and 248g; available in Star Trail Silver and Moon Shadow Gray.

‎‎The design looks relatively conventional from the front, but the rear module reveals the motorized gimbal arm when activated. Honor has also demonstrated the phone acting as the “brain” for external robot bodies in partnerships, highlighting broader embodied AI ambitions.

‎Pricing and availability

In China, the 12GB/512GB model is priced at CNY 9,999 (roughly $1,480–$1,500), while the 16GB/1TB version costs CNY 12,999 (around $1,930). Pricing came in lower than some earlier estimates that had projected higher figures due to the complex gimbal mechanism. Buyers receive accessory packs (such as a magnetic stand, lanyard, and charger) along with the AI membership benefits.

‎‎The Robot Phone is currently a China-exclusive. Honor has not announced plans for an international release of this first-generation model.

‎‎The device was first teased alongside the Magic series in late 2025, shown as a prototype at events including CES and MWC 2026, and demonstrated at film festivals. It targets creators seeking professional-grade stabilization and tracking in a single device that still functions as a full smartphone. Pre-orders for the Robot phone hit over 200,000 in just the first week of its announcement.

Hands-on impressions have noted strong stabilization performance compared with conventional phones, though the bulk and weight are higher than typical flagships to accommodate the mechanism.

‎‎Whether the concept expands beyond China or influences future mainstream designs remains to be seen. For now, the Honor Robot Phone represents a bold experiment in combining robotics, AI, and mobile imaging, one that is finally available for purchase in its home market starting August 18, 2026.
