Could AI, Robotics and Drone Technology win the War against Insurgency and Terrorism for Africa?

Posted by

Africa is greatly ravaged with insecurity, terrorism and fighting currently taking place in different parts of the African Continent leading to losses of lives and destruction of properties. Today, insecurity and terrorism is greatly affecting African development by affecting peaceful coexistence, movement of Africans, goods and services. In recent times, advancements in technology has seen the coming of AI, Robotics and Drone warfare tools deployed in advanced countries to aid in the fight against terrorism and insecurity. Modern surveillance tools developed by OpenAI, Anthropic have even been deployed in the war with Iran yielding very impressive results. These advances in Military AI tools, Robotics, and Drone technology could hold the key ending terrorism, insurgency and insecurity in Africa.

Key Takeaways

-AI, Robotics and Light weight Drones are helping Militaries around the world to win the fight against insecurity

-Highlight of some Tech tools deployed to provide advanced Automated support features for Kinetic and Non-Kinetic Military approaches to ending insurgency, terrorism and insecurity round the world

-How Africa too can leverage AI, Robotics and Drone Technology in the fight against insurgency, terrorism and insecurity in Africa

The issue of insecurity, terrorism and insurgency in growing rapidly across different countries in Africa. Both internal and external actors champion this spike in terrorism, insurgency and insecurity in Africa leading to losses of many lives, and destruction of many properties. In Nigeria today, actions of terrorist groups such as Bokoharam, Laukurawa, Iswap and many other terrorist organizations operating in Nigeria, has led to the loss of over 5 Million lives, destruction of villages, properties thereby forcing over 10 Million Nigerians to take refuge inside Internally Displaced Persons IDP camps. This has also been exacerbated by the activities of Blood thirsty Fulani Terrorist Groups responsible for over 300,000 deaths in different parts of Nigeria especially the Middle-Belt and Northern Regions of Nigeria.

Today, what makes insecurity very difficult to curtail in Africa is embedded in different factors. Some of these factors include foreign financial support to terrorist groups in Africa, Access to Modern Warfare Tools, Drones, and Machines by Terrorist groups in Africa. These factors have cumulatively made the fight against terrorism more difficult and strenuous for Militaries across the African Continent.

In Nigeria today, Terrorist groups and Insurgents are deploying advanced drones, machines and weapons to attack Military units and checkpoints with very high precision.

Today, the introduction of AI, Robotics and Drone Technology into Military Warfare has brought with it a wide range of innovative advantages for Military operations across the world. These advanced Tech tools are currently deployed for Military Surveillance, Attack and Defense operations helping Security operatives and Military Officers to achieve higher accuracy, precision, and efficiency in eliminating terrorists and high profile targets across world.

Africa too can learn from these advanced countries currently deploying AI, Robotics and advanced Drone Technology in combating terrorism, insurgency and insecurity in Africa.

Some Advanced Tech tools currently deployed to provide advanced Automated support features for Kinetic and Non-Kinetic Military Operations round the world

-AI Powered Surveillance: Today, advanced AI tools developed by Anthropic primarily its flagship claude models has been deployed in the war with Iran by the United States Army to carry out precision surveillance and target tracking. These AI powered surveillance tools were used on the very first day of Iran-US war to provide the exact location and provide directions for the drone attack which killed the Iran supreme leader Ayatollah.

-Unmanned Military Vehicles (UMV’s): Presently, unmanned military vehicles have been deployed in different military operations across the world. These military vehicles are self operated /self driven making them very effective for Military operations in very hostile regions. These vehicles assist in weapon and material supply to frontline troops, under water and in land mine detecting/dislodgement and casualty movement from war fronts back to base camps.

-War Robots: Today, countries like North Korea have developed and started testing war robots for military operations. These War robots are built to look like humans and carry out Military operations just like humans. They provide very good Military input as they function with much higher precision in target tracking, shooting, and reconnaissance operations. Other countries like the United States of America have commenced testing on Military Robots deployed for rescue operations in areas, which may be extremely dangerous for human troops to carry out soldier rescue and return operations.

-Light weight Advanced Drones: One thing the war with Iran has proven to the world is the fact that Drone technology is very vital for Military success in modern time. Today, advanced Light weight Drones made of cheap materials are proving to be very effective as these Light weight drones provide a cheaper and efficient way to aerial Military dominance. The Light weight drones are very good for carrying out both low and high profile stealth military operations at very minimal costs. It is in the Light of this that the United States Central Military Command recently announced the signing of an agreement to establish a drone Manufacturing and Training center in Morocco Africa. This drone center when developed and functional is expected to aid in the Manufacturing and Training of African Military Personnel on drone creation and deployment to combat terrorism, insurgency and insecurity in Africa.

How Africa too can leverage AI, Robotics and Drone Technology in the fight against insurgency, terrorism and insecurity in Africa

Terrorist operations in Africa, are usually carried out in hit and run fashion. This means that Militaries in Africa can combat terrorism effectively by deploying AI surveillance, to checkmate terrorist operations before they occur while deploying light weight drones for swift target decimations. With AI powered surveillance, terrorist camps will be easily detected and destroyed, making it hard for terrorists to reconvene and attack Military formations.Africa can also develop and deploy unmanned Mine detecting and dislodgement robots for Military operations. These Mine detecting robots, can be deployed to clear terrorist mine laden areas, thereby creating room for soldiers to focus and carry out other Military activities effectively and efficiently.
