ChatGPT has released a brand new plan that comes with a hefty $500 price tag. OpenAI’s New $500/Month Plan Features new improvements and more expanded Limits but Is It really Worth the hype?
OpenAI just raised the ceiling on individual ChatGPT subscriptions. At DevDay 2026 on September 29, the company launched ChatGPT Pro 500, a new top-tier plan that costs $500 per month.
ChatGPT Pro 500, the new top-tier plan costs $500 per month. That’s $6,000 a year before tax and 25 times the price of ChatGPT Plus and more than double the previous top individual plan.

At the same time, OpenAI reopened its previously paused $200 Pro plan to new subscribers but cut its included usage roughly in half for most people.
Here’s a clear look at what the $500 ChatGPT Pro-plan actually delivers, how the lower Pro tiers changed, and who might realistically benefit from this heavy premium priced AI plan.
What Is ChatGPT Pro 500?
ChatGPT Pro 500 is OpenAI’s highest self-serve individual subscription. It sits above the existing Pro 100 ($100/month) and Pro 200 ($200/month) tiers.
According to OpenAI’s own help documentation and DevDay announcements, the plan includes:
- The highest usage allowance among the three Pro plans with 25× the ChatGPT Plus baseline for Work and Codex
- Exclusive access to Ultrafast also called Astra Ultrafast
- All standard Pro features: advanced models, Codex, deep research, image creation, memory, file uploads, and a personal AI agent (“Dot”)

OpenAI’s new $500 a month plan includes “Ultrafast.”OpenAI
Ultrafast is the standout feature. OpenAI describes it as a premium speed tier for GPT-6 Astra. In Codex it can generate up to 300 tokens per second which is up to eight times faster than the standard tier. The same mode is available in ChatGPT Work.
Ultrafast is selectable in the model picker and is currently exclusive to Pro 500 among the consumer Pro plans. Buying extra credits on lower Pro tiers does not unlock it at launch.
How the Pro Plans Now Compare
Every new Pro tier now works out to roughly the same cost per unit of usage ($20 per “Plus equivalent”). Existing Pro 200 subscribers keep the old higher allowance through October 29, 2026, then move to the new lower limits. They also receive a one-time grant of usage credits roughly $2,500 worth that expires at the end of 2026.
GPT-6 Pro chat message limits on Pro 200 also drop from 200 to 100 per week starting October 30.
What Changed for the $200 Plan?
OpenAI simultaneously made Pro 200 less generous for new and soon for existing subscribers:
– Work and Codex usage cut from 20× Plus to 10× Plus
- Weekly GPT-6 Pro messages reduced from 200 to 100
- The previous five-hour limit is not returning
OpenAI’s stated reason is that newer models are more efficient, so the same dollar of usage now goes further in many cases. Heavy users of the flagship model still feel a real reduction.

Who Is the New $500 ChatGPT Pro-Plan Actually For?
ChatGPT’s Pro 500 targets power users and professionals for whom time and reliability matter more than the sticker price:
- Developers and engineers running long Codex sessions who need maximum speed
- Researchers or analysts doing heavy multi-step Work agent tasks
- Teams or individuals who previously hit usage walls on the $200 plan even after the higher allowance
- Anyone who values the absolute fastest response times on GPT-6 Astra
For most people including many serious ChatGPT users, the $100 or $200 tiers will remain the better value. The per-unit cost of usage is now essentially the same across the Pro ladder; you’re mainly paying for higher headroom and exclusive speed.
Is ChatGPT Pro 500 Worth $500 a Month?
At $6,000 per year, this is enterprise-adjacent pricing for an individual plan. It makes sense only if:
1. You regularly exhaust lower Pro allowances, and
2. The speed advantage of Ultrafast meaningfully improves your productivity or turnaround times.
Casual power users, students, and most freelancers will almost certainly find better ROI on Plus, Pro 100, or Pro 200. Businesses needing team features should look at OpenAI’s Business or Enterprise plans instead.
OpenAI’s new pricing ladder is clearer and more segmented than before. Pro 500 delivers the highest usage limits plus exclusive access to the fastest inference tier available in ChatGPT Work and Codex. In exchange, the company has tightened the $200 plan so that every dollar now buys roughly the same amount of work across tiers.
The $500 plan is real, available now through the ChatGPT pricing page, and aimed squarely at the heaviest individual users. For everyone else, the more interesting story may be the reduced value of the previous top tier and the new mid-range options that sit between Plus and the ultra-premium level.
